Post Blog Two. Read and Respond - Facebook or not to Facebook

Blog Post Two: Facebook or not to Facebook

I have only experienced problems with the technical side of Facebook.  I am not all that computer savvy anyway. When Facebook changed things, we had quit using the internet.  We had internet installed in September of 2012 for my computer class assignments.  I found it hard to understand what the new procedures to get back on the internet included.  My grandson knew how to get me on again, and was very helpful in the reconnecting to Facebook. I believe Facebook’s users increased while I was off the internet. It seems that the internet is causing a lot of gossip on  the nightly news.  It makes me uncomfortable that users use X-rated language and show pictures that minors could see. We have the first amendment right to express ourselves with freedom of speech, sometimes that freedom goes for one but not for all. I may not like what you say or do on Facebook, and yet I cannot erase what I know is wrong to be in print.  If, there was one thing that I would like to see done on Facebook is censorship, especially because children read the words that show up on Facebook.  There should be censorship with some of the pictures that I see on there, too. I use my g-mail account more these days because of my college assignments.
I personally use Facebook to keep in touch with friends and family.  My son puts pictures of my granddaughters on Facebook for me to see them as they grow up, as he lives in Phoenix, AZ. My class reunion back in 2011 was arranged through Facebook. We are digital people and the more this generation knows about the internet and its sister communications the more we are apt to keep in touch. So, I like Facebook, and I use it but it does have some problems that could be fixed.

Blog Prompt 20 New Law Work Place Bully

Blog Prompt 20

In 1963, lawmakers decided that it was time to protect the unborn fetus from those that smoke cigarettes, so they put warnings on the packages.  This law passed so that the fetus would not have to suffer from lung diseases, such as asthma. Early delivery, low birth weight, the lung diseases might have been the major reasons that the lawmakers fought to have the warnings put on the cigarette packages.
A law that might need to pass is that there should be no tolerance for bullying in the work place.  There should be a law to protect the victim when they expose the bully. In most cases, the victim will lose their job, accused of being a tattletale, while the bully will continue to work. A bully is sneaky. They attack the victim when they are alone so there are no witnesses. The words they use are cruel and demeaning to the victim. When you tell the person in charge, they try to soothe the victim and tell them that they will take care of the problem, when in fact it does not disappear.  The victim makes a mistake when they go back and tell that same person that the bullying is worse. The victim is hurting and feels like there is no one to turn to for help. In some cases, the bully and the person in charge are good friends and look out for each other. The law should read; “Does not matter why, if, you bully you will be discharged immediately.” Why do companies tell you to go to certain people in the organization when there are problems? Then when you go in to explain that you are being bullied that person tells you that you are imaging the whole situation. Bullying is something in the work place that should be at the top of the list for organizations to be on the lookout for.  Certain people in an organization believe their title gives them the privilege to be a bully.

Blog 4 May 19-May 25

I just read Mike's essay on Lincoln and Darwin.  He gave his opinion of all the things that the two men had in common, and then all the things that they did not share.  Mike said that he felt that they would still be fighting for the rights of the slaves. Wish they still lived today, maybe they would be the ones that could make the color of your skin not be your disputable asset.

Mike,
Things that I noticed on your essay.
All men are created equality should be equally.
Believes should be beliefs
Personal should be personally
Wright should be right

The essay was good, and he did have a valid point in the essay.

I liked the last set of peer evaluations that we exchanged in class. I read Mike Meyers story on the Ohio Buckeyes versus the Oregon Ducks in winning tis year's conference football.  He did a good job of giving us the numbers.  It was fun and he seemed so intense in the paper.  I am sure that he really loves his football.  I can tell that he is a big Buckeye fan.  Good Luck Mike, I am rooting for the Ducks.  May the best football team win!

I am sorry, I do not remember the other guys names, but their stories were good.

One young man will be moving to southern California in June.  He is in a dilemma as to whether to take his car or fly.  He explains that he would have to get rid of some of his belongings. He was afraid if he took the car, he would not have much room for his things anyway, as he is giving his family members a ride. His destination is to his cousin's graduation.  He wants to visit his cousin before he has to get home to register for classes in southern California.  Hope all goes well.  He still did not have any idea what his decision would be.

The third essay was about the personal decision of changing his life from evil to good.  He used the term from evil to the light.  He felt that he was once very evil, and now he is experiencing joy because he had found Jesus.  He feels better now that he does not do the evil things.  He is much happier, and he wants to share this light with others.  He explained that he was not a very good person before he became a believer.  I liked his honesty and that he shared a personal decision with his classmates.

The author of the essay about Jennie Finch did a good job in telling who she would like to trade places with.  I can tell by her essay that she really likes softball.  Her thoughts were well written and I was really excited for her.  I could tell she just wants to play like Jennie.  I was very surprised that she said that she was a little jealous of Jennie.  I really hoped that she will eventually like the way she looks.  Jennie indeed is where she is because of hard work.  I am almost positive that she would tell the author of this paper that she is beautiful, too.  We were all made different so we would not get bored to death if everyone looked the same.  I believe we will hear about this author same day.
Good Luck!

I was reading a Respond entitled "How Facebook is Making Friending obsolete"

        This was an interesting essay.

I think that the author had a good start on a right thought.  I think that Facebook was originally intended to help people keep in touch with one another.  I also think that with all the nasty comments it has become rather hard to want to go to there.

My family uses Facebook to send pictures to one another.  We have lots of relatives on the east coast that we keep in touch with on Facebook.  We all appreciate the source so that we can keep in touch over the miles.

What we need to worry about with any computer resource is that we do not become addicted and the computer becomes more important than anything else.  I hope that we all use the computer in moderation. We need to remember that we have all of Oregon to enjoy, too.

The Twin Revolutions of Lincoln and Darwin.

Lincoln and Darwin are alike in several ways. They were born on the same day on February 12,
1809. They both  thought that all people are created equal.  It seems that there were of the slave era and experienced the cruelty done to the black slaves, just because of the color of their skin. Each man fought to abolish slavery. Each man became great men in their own way, Lincoln a president, who work to save the Union, and Darwin a botanist, whose work led to an understanding of biology and other medical improvements.  Both men's passion was to abolish all slavery. They were both great Emancipators in their own countries in the same century. Each changed history about slavery in the 19th century.

Lincoln and Darwin are different because one was a poor man, and the other experienced a better upbringing. One was an abolitionist and one brought on the Civil War.  One wrote a book on the origins of species, which proved that all men are basically the same, except for the coicalor of their skin.  Lincoln became the president that would go down in history wanting the black people to be free., Darwin is the abolitionist that found ways to improve the medical field.

Each man made significant contributions to history. They were great men in their own countries and basically fought for the slaves freedom.  These men deserve special acknowledgment that they were men of greatness, and displayed a humility to help others less fortunate than they were,  Lincoln will always be honored as our fourteenth president.  Darwin's theories will stand for their revolutions of the species.

Who would I like to trade places with?

I believe that given the opportunity to trade places with anyone, it would have to be Reba McEntire.  She is a good country singer, and she has come up through the ranks to get where she is.  She is a hard worker and she believes in having her hand in all her projects.  She owns her own music company, and is an actor, and she is basically a southern raised girl.  She writes her own music, and plays a guitar.  She grew up singing with her family.  She believes in God, and she has a wonderful sense of humor. She believes in giving back, by helping build Homes for Habitat.  Giving back is why she thinks that she has such a good life.  Recently, she gave another family their keys for a new home.

I want to be like Miss Reba because of the fact that her singing voice is like none I have ever heard before.  I would like to be able to write music like she does.  I admire that she shares what she has and pays it forward for those less fortunate.  She has a work ethic that is to be admired.  I would like to be able to see what I have done on record, which she proves can be done. I would like to own a company that helps new artist jump-start their careers. I would like to have a work ethic as she has in her day-to-day life.  All that I have said above is what I would like to do but what I would like the most is her ability to sing as pitch perfect as she does.  She has a cute southern twang to her voice, which sets that voice apart from other singers.  To be able to sing the way that she does with the confidence that she has in her performances, would be the biggest joy of my life.  I really do admire what Reba has done with her life, so she is the one that I would like to trade places with.

Essay Reviews for peers.

After reading the essays we wrote, I thought the three that I was assigned were good.  There was some good information reported on.  I just want my class to know that your writing is good, and I felt really good about reading them.
Keep up on the good works.

Thanks for the good works.

Essay 1 What did I learn?

My first essay was about Killer Whales.  What I learned from this essay is two fold.  I learned  about the library's resources for doing our papers. I also learned about the Killer Whales.

The Killer Whales are in our oceans, and they move where they can find food to consume.  The research helped me learn that the whales are intelligent.  They have their pods, and there is a unity in each pod.  The whales unite to catch and kill their dinner. It is a group effort.

In Canada, scientist are watching certain whales learn more about the habits of the Killer Whales.  There is concern for those whales that get caught in inlets when it freezes.  Most of the whales seem to know when to leave the inlets.

I have learned how to find the resource to cite my papers.  I thought this essay was fun.  I have always loved the Killer Whale, and this was a fun way to learn about them..Thanks Jenn.
